Dear Lightworker…
I wrote the poem below as song lyrics and I am currently in the song-writing process, but I wanted to post the lyrics because they reflect how I feel about being emotionally sensitive and exposed in a world that can feel harsh. I always thought my sensitivity and my ability to love and feel suffering deeply was a liability, but I am now realizing that it is needed in the world along with the strength it has helped me develop. Music and singing has been a huge part of healing these wounds for me.
This song is for you, the lightworker who is reading these words, and has felt somehow that your love, care, and concern were not enough. They are enough and we do need your sensitive soul more than ever. Please let these words remind you of that truth.
Dear Lightworker
I know you are a sensitive soul.
Your heart feels pain so deeply,
But love is there too within.
You can feel both fully and completely.
Sometimes you take on worries for others,
Division hurts your body and heart,
But your love is big enough to teach others.
Be the guide you were meant to be from the start.
Deep and wide like the ocean,
Mutable and changeable as fire,
Breathe in the beauty of your emotions.
To feel is to breathe and be alive.
Hold the hand of the victim and perpetrator.
Let them see themselves in each other’s eyes,
A clear reflection of what it means to be human,
But with the gaze of love in their guise.
Activating our voices,
Moving toward sweet harmony,
As we feel our our feelings together
While letting go of our fears.
Deep and wide like the ocean,
Mutable and changeable as fire,
Breathe in the beauty of your emotions.
To feel is to breathe and be alive.
We are a bridge to bring together
The hearts of all humankind.
Let us move in that direction
Because there is only now and now is the time.
You may have thought you were not enough,
But in truth you are perfectly made
For a time such as this we are in,
So let’s lead with our hearts and show the way.
