Dream Wisdom
As a soul voice activation coach, one of the modalities I am drawn to using in my practice is dreamwork. I believe that dreams are a portal information both from our subsconscious/psyche and our soul self. If we see the dream world as a symbol driven realm as per Freud/Jung, etc, we can get answers to our most pressing questions.
Recently I had a dream about a large house that I was preparing to sell, but it was quite filthy and had been neglected. Luckily, I had help to clean up the house and once I got started, I found that the house was easily cleaned with time, and I finished most of the work by myself. A male figure, in particular (an old work associate that I knew tangentially) showed up to help me start the work and I was able to finish it eventually without his help. If I analyzed this dream, I was able to see that the house represented my inner psychic landscape. Buildings have different meanings, but houses can symbolize the structure of our psyche. The cleaning out indicates that there are old outdated beliefs and mental clutter, and that I am successfully cleaning them out with some help getting started. I recently hired a coach and he has been helping me with getting the processs started, but my higher self is telling me once I get going, I will likely have the confidence to finish the job myself. I have been meditating and doing spiritual practices regularly since beginning to work with my coach, and I am already seeing tangible progress. This dream was a message from my soul to keep going and finish the work, and that I should feel encouraged in this process.
the introduction of the old boss from my past is an archetype of a male boss energy who helps to instill a disciplined ethic as male energy usually indicates structure and boundaries. The fact that this energy is from my past and left before I completed the work, indicates that I will not need this male energy indefinitely, and that once I get going, the process will continue without the outside influence.
In real life, it means “keep going, continue your work and your discipline and you will reach your goal - aka don’t give up and don’t let your fears get in the way.”
This is just an example of this type of dream work. I will share below some common indications of themes that often arise in dreams so you can start interpreting your own dreams.
Physical Intimacy - When you have physical intimacy in a dream, it can represent unexpressed desire and the right to love your life and live it for your own sake and enjoy your life. These type of dreams sometimes appear when you are repressing some time of expression or desire in waking life. The unconscious and the soul is saying “my desires matter.” It can also indicate merging another’s energy with your own/taking another into yourself. For example, there may be a quality of the love object that your personality wants to incorporate. Perhaps you have dreamt of a loving, passionate, romantic type of character. Perhaps you need to bring more self-love, romance, and passion intor your personality. Perhaps you can go on a lovely vacation, read or write romantic poetry, or some other passionate, romantic pursuit. These are some of the meanings that might resonate with you.
Shopping - When you go shopping in a dream, it can indicate seeking. If you are shopping, but you do not actually buy anything, it can indicate you have not obtained that which you seek externally, and you are looking outside for external satisfaction as opposed to within. The unconscious is communicating a sense of lack and a good question to ask is “what are you looking outward for that you can source within yourself?”
Water - Water, in general, indicates emotional/intuitive energy. The quality of the water and how you interact with it give you clues as to how you interact with your emotions. For example a tsunami or inundating ocean may indicate “feeling” overwhelmed. The way to deal with water energy is allow flow, flexibility, and letting go to release any emotional blockages. You may also want to engage in emotional exploration, discover or sit with any repressed emotions, and then feel and express them. Some emotions you may need to process can include grief, sadness, helplessness, etc. Look to the specific dream for clues.
Fire - Fire is a more drastic and intense alchemical process and indicates action-oriented phenomenon. It can indicate a need to process anger, boundaries, or take action toward a specific goal or area of life. It can also represent things “burning up”, even quite suddenly, whether it’s an old situation or old way of being.
poop/toilet - The presence of waste in a dream can indicate a need for cleaning up that which is no longer needed including negative thoughts or beliefs, and it can also indicate that which we find shadowy or repulsive about ourselves, even shameful. Since the waste was created in the body, it comes from you and your very human self. It is the need, in particular, to process shame about ourselves so we can be more free in life and accept ourselves fully.
Animals - animals in a dream indicate the need to act instinctually as a quality that the animal represents - for example a snake may mean the need to explore healing, boundaries, and protection. A lion could indicate qualities of royalty, being a leader, or raw strength. Your reaction to the animal indicates how close or far you are from exhibiting that trait. Being afraid of the lion, for example, can indicate that you are afraid of being a leader in some capacity.
Ex-partner: an ex partner can represent a way of being that is old and needs to be let go of. For example, if your experience of your ex was that he was overly-contolling, there is a need to let go of the idea that all “men” or “women” are overly controlling and to incorporate a more healthy image of your inner mother or father within the psyche.
These are just some of the themes that you may find in a dream. Everyone has their own relationship to their dream symbols. An excellent way to do dream analysis is to write the main to object/animals/activity/people in the dream and your own personal association with that object/animal/person/activity. Then tie the pieces together
Dream work, spiritual hypnosis, voice work, reiki, sound healing, divination (tarot) and astrology are some of the tools I use in my practice.
